There are hundreds of components that are evaluated during a home inspection. One of the most simple, yet critical components is your clothes dryer venting system. An estimate of 15,500 house fires are attributed to clothes dryers annually per the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) . Moreover, over 1/3 of clothes dryer fires are due to lack of routine cleaning of clothes dryer vent systems. Clothes dryer fires can also be attributed to use of improper types of exhaust/venting duct work which I (as a home inspector) observe on a routine basis.
